(Jeremiah 29:11, Proverbs 3:5-6, Psalm 33:11, Matthew 6:25-31)
What to know about this song:
In your spare time, I recommend visiting
the website of your local community college and taking in the mammoth list of
degree program options. It’s pretty
incredible to sit there and count the number of things a person can learn to do
with a life without even leaving town.
As soon as your kids start school, ideas
start flooding their minds of what to do when they grow up. And being exposed to those sorts of things is
not a bad thing – it’s good for kids to know about what kinds of things they
might be able to achieve, and to learn how to have goals and work toward
them. BUT – what’s important for them to
know is that God has already laid out a purpose for them, and has prepared for
them a way to walk in it. Kids need to
know as early as possible that they don’t have to spend years spinning wheels
and hoping they catch a break someday. They
may not feel the pressure in kindergarten, but by the time they’re in high
school, it will have been great for them to know that a sovereign God set aside
a part of his great plan just for them, and that they can have peace in being
obedient to Him.
I wrote this song to head off worrying
about the future before kids are even old enough to do that.
I'd also like to point out that I use the word "think!" I'm a firm believer that God gave us all the ability to take in information, weigh it against itself, and make decisions. What's important is that kids know that the information they get from God is of greater value than anything else, and that they are exposed to the Spiritual gifts of Godly wisdom and discernment as part of a decision making process. But learning what God wants for us is not about just praying, hoping, and being lazy, but also THINKING! I want to encourage the process of thinking in Christian families!

Work the subject matter of this song
into conversations about what your kids want to be when they grow up – and
maybe even share with them the beautiful fact that God’s plan for their miraculous
lives does not have to wait for them to grow up - it's ready for them today!
Lyrics:
A plan for me, a plan for me
The Father has a plan for me
A plan for me, a plan for me
The Father has a plan
Like a sponge that hasn’t gotten wet
Or an egg that hasn’t hatched just yet
I wonder what could be in store for me
So I’ll learn and pray and think and
grow
And follow Jesus, then I’ll know
That I’m becoming who I’m supposed to be
A plan for me, a plan for me
The Father has a plan for me
A plan for me, a plan for me
The Father has a plan
God gives every bird a home
And makes flowers so the fields have
clothes
So I don’t need to worry about a thing
I’ll just obey His perfect will
‘cause He paints a bigger picture still
And He’s carved in it a place that’s
just for me
A plan for me, a plan for me
The Father has a plan for me
A plan for me, a plan for me
The Father has a plan
There’s a plan for me, just wait and see
There’s a plan for me, you’ll see!
