(John 1:10-13, Romans 8:16&17)
What to know about this song:
For starters, if you’re not praying that
your kids get saved at an early age, start doing it now!
When it comes to salvation, I’ve never
been much of a fire and brimstone kind of guy.
I’ve always felt that if there was a different seed to sow that would
produce better fruit, we ought to sow that one. I've never really wanted anyone, especially children, to try to know God simply out of a fear of hell. Rather, it's God's kindness, compassion, and unfathomable love that I truly believe changes lives.
This is a song about one of the great
aspects of being a follower of Christ – being a Child of God. Scripture says that when we receive Him as
our Lord and Savior, we receive adoption as sons, and become heirs with
Christ. We aren’t made into slaves (and
by the way, so many other things would have you as a slave to performance-based
acceptance), but instead are made to be children of God.
I also strongly feel that this concept will have an influence on how your kids grow up to evangelize - we don't need any more Christians in the world who behave with resentment, condescension, or hatred toward non-believers! We need Christians who have grown up knowing without a shadow of a doubt that being a child of God is a beautiful thing, and who want to share that with the world!

I wanted kids to know this concept well,
so that as the time approaches for them to make a decision, they will know
something about how great it is to be a child of God. Keep the subject matter of this song in mind
for when your kids start asking questions about why your family believes and
behaves the way it does, and why you, as parents, hold your family to such
specific standards. Explain that they
are part of a family that calls God their Father.
Lyrics:
I’m glad to be a child of God
I believe the promises He made to me
God loves all his children, and He
teaches them His ways
And so I’m glad to be a child of God
For Jesus came to be the Way, the Truth,
the Life for always
And so through faith I now can say
The God of Heaven is my Father
I’m glad to be a child of God
I believe the promises He made to me
God loves all his children, and He
teaches them His ways
And so I’m glad to be a child of God
He gave to me a family in Christ to help
me grow
And through His Word we all have heard
The God of Heaven is our Father
I’m glad to be a child of God
I believe the promises He made to me
God loves all his children, and He
teaches them His ways
And so I’m glad to be a child of God
